Ever since the automobile became a mode of transport, there have been electric vehicles. Guided by the question why the electric vehicle lost against the gasoline car, reappeared several times only to vanish again, this paper explores the reasons for these disappearances. It asks the question,whether the most recent reappearance might be the one that will finally provide the breakthrough for the electric vehicle.
