futurecities

My final project "Our Future Cities" is a 3D computer simulation using a program called "SketchUp". It focuses on creating a green city that unites aspects of modern eco-friendly living, ecological construction, an elaborated infrastructure as well as green energy. It is an attempt to combine well-tried procedures with advanced techniques and methods of high potential to create the eco-city of our future – a city not only for humans but also for nature. This is not an attempt ro create "ecotopia" but rather show what is possible within the next 20 - 30 years.

"Eventually, the number of humans living in cities will rise - according to estimations of the United Nations – from 50 % today to 80 % within the next thirty years. Living greener and saving resources will therefore be even more important." wrote Susanne Iden (Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung, 19/2/16).

This ascertainment describes exactly why it is necessary and long overdue to think about our future cities. As the population is grows, the need for space is growing too. Individual interests have to be balanced against the common interest. Smart and versatile ideas are needed to completely over-think our city concepts. We should turn our backs on monotonous cities and rather look forward to a vivid urban oases.
