17 Ziele für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung Die Rolle der Wissenschaft bei der Umsetzung der Sustainable Development Goals

04.07.2019

The overcoming of global challenges in the 21st century is a common task of civil society, economy, politics, and science. Science needs to show ways, in which the agenda 2030 of the United Nations with their 17 goals for sustainable development (Sustainable Development Goals - short: SDGs) can be implemented. Humanity is faced with multilayered challenges concerning content, methods, frames, conditions, and ways of communication in research and teaching as:

• What conflicting goals make the SDGs and how are we coping with it?

• With which special competences is scientific research facing the radical challenges of an ecosocial development model?

• What happens at the interface of science and society just as economy and politics?

• We know a lot and do little. How can science and education help to solve this dilemma?

These and more questions are being discussed by Prof. Dr. Stephan Lessenich (chair of political sociology, LMU), Prof. Dr. Karen Pittel (manager of the center for energy, climate, and exhaustible resources, ifo) and Prof. Dr. Markus Vogt (chair of Christian social ethics, LMU). The event is moderated by Prof. Dr. Ralf Ludwig (department for Geography, LMU) and Prof. Dr. Michael Meyen (Institute for communication science and media research, LMU).
