Alternative Agriculture: Permaculture Workshop

06.05.2016

Immersing in permaculture

Jochen Koller, Diploma Permaculture-Designer und Director of the "Forschungsinstitut für Permakultur und Transition" (FIPT), provided students of the Environmental Studies Program with the unique opportunity of attending his three day workshop. Here, students were able to gain insight into the ethics and design principles of permaculture, the diverse spheres of activity and the practical possibilities created through permaculture. Most learning was of a practical nature but left ample room for discussion and reflection to provide students with a deeper understanding of permaculture as an interdisciplinary approach to thinking, planning and designing.

The following areas were addressed:

  • a brief introduction into the history, ethics, philosophy and methods of permaculture. Essential theoretical principles will be applied in practice.
  • lived permaculture: gathering practical experiences and understanding how ideas and philosophies of permaculture are applied.
  • discussion and reflection: What possibilities does permaculture present us with as an alternate mode of living and as a tool for rethinking society?
