Robert Emmett is Director of Academic Programs at the RCC. He completed a B.A. in English (Modern Studies) and French at the University of Virginia and received an M.A. and PhD in English from UW-Madison. During his PhD, Robert was a project assistant at the Center for Culture, History, and Environment at UW-Madison.

Since completing his PhD, Robert has worked as a visiting assistant professor at UW-Milwaukee, teaching classes on environmental writing, American literary history, and environmental justice. He has also taught a class entitled "Environment and Society," which compared how different social systems have produced and responded to environmental problems. His research interests include American environmental writing, memoir, the protest novel, urban ecology, and environmental history. His recent research has focused on American garden writing and the cultivation of political and ethical engagement with environmental issues.

As Director of Academic Programs, Robert helps to develop and facilitate various strategic partnerships. He serves as the co-convener for RCC events and workshops and represents the RCC at conferences and events around the world. He also supports the RCC in fundraising and grant-writing.
