Stephanye Zarama-Alvarado, B.A.

Stephanye Zarama-Alvarado completed her BSc in biology and BA in philosophy at the Universidad del Valle in Colombia, and received her MSc in biology from LMU Munich, where she specialized in ecology. She worked in Colombia’s education and research sector for many years. Her motivation for crossing disciplinary boundaries on environmental issues has led her to join the Environmental Studies Certificate Program.

Her main interests include political ecology, environmental ethics, philosophy of biology, human-nature interactions, sustainable development, biodiversity, conservation, aquatic ecology, bio-remediation, and climate change, with a regional focus on Latin America.

For her final project, Stephanye worked on environmental justice cases of sugarcane expansion in the southwest of Colombia.
