Philosophy, Social and Cultural Anthropology

Nika Pitkänen is studying cultural anthropology, philosophy, and comparative cultural and religious studies at LMU Munich. She graduated with BA in anthropology in 2015 and is currently working on a second BA thesis in philosophy, in which she analyzes Foucault’s discourse theory. She spent the winter semester of 2013/14 in Peru researching an international development aid organization; this work was integrated in her bachelor’s thesis, entitled “Ethnological perspectives on Voluntourism: Critical Analysis of Representation of Voluntourism in Academic Literature.” Currently she is studying alternative lifestyles in Brazil, Bahia within broader contexts of pluriverse and buen vivir. She is interested in environmental ethics as a link between practical philosophy and anthropology.
