Md Safiqul Islam completed a bachelor of science (honors) and a master of science in zoology with a specialization in wildlife and biodiversity conservation at Jagannath University, Bangladesh. He is currently enrolled in graduate studies in evolution, ecology and systematics (EES) at LMU Munich. His main research interests are conservation biology, ecology, and molecular taxonomy, and his current research focuses on the impact of climate change on mangrove insects. He has recently won the “Lehre at LMU” student award in 2016/17 for his DNA barcoding project. He is also a research assistant at the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology in Munich. His interest in cross-disciplinary study of environmental issues (specifically nature conservation and climate change) motivated him to join the Environmental Studies Certificate Program in 2016.
