Kyrill Hirner

Kyrill Hirner, B.A.

Certificate Student
Social and Cultural Anthropology

Kyrill Hirner worked in electronic broadcasting and documentary filmmaking for three years, including five months teaching filmmaking with Andreas Frowein at Kampala International University, before beginning his studies in Anthropology at LMU Munich. His BA thesis was based on three months of field research in Cuba, studying the economic and ideological self-conceptualization of cuentapropistas, both legal and illegal freelancers. A DAAD scholarship allowed him to study at Wayne State University in Detroit for a year, and he returned there in summer 2015 for both MA research and photography. He is in his second year of the Environmental Studies Certificate Program. Kyrill also teaches courses on photography and filmmaking.
