Veronika Degmayr studied geography at Rupprecht-Karls Universität Heidelberg and Loughborough University before coming to LMU Munich in 2013 to pursue a master’s in Environmental Systems and Sustainability. Her main interest is the study of human-nature interactions and relationships, with a special focus on freshwater and coastal areas, and northern environments. For her final project she created a photo story about the tradition of backyard gardening in rural Bavaria and how it affects the gardeners, society, and, ultimately, nature. At the moment, she is writing her master’s thesis on the provision of freshwater ecosystem services in the upper Sava River basin.
