Ina Brechenmacher, B.A.

Certificate Student
American Studies

Ina Brechenmacher received her bachelor's in American studies and theater and media studies at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg in 2018. In 2015, she took part in an exchange with the Department of Theatre at Concordia University in Montréal, Canada, creating a political performance with Canadian and German students. A lecture at the Fulbright American Studies Summer Session in 2017 and her personal interest in environmental protection and environmental journalism led her to her thesis topic "The Politics of Emotion in the 'Crying Indian' Ad Campaign." Her thesis deals with the visual representation of environmental problems in the 1970s in the United States, more specifically with the depiction of Native Americans and the emotions involved in these narratives. As of October 2018, she is pursuing a master's degree in American history, culture, and society, focusing on environmental justice and environmental politics in North America. She joined the Environmental Studies Certificate Program in 2018.
