Stefan Bitsch is studying geology at LMU Munich and his research focuses broadly on how humans deal with natural resources and hazards. In his research on environmentally friendly mining practices he aims particularly to understand the behavior of rapidly industrializing countries in the Global South and why they are encountering problems similar to those experienced in the Global North. Stefan is also interested in the connection between climate change and the increasing number of natural disasters, and how people respond to them. How do such disasters influence the long-term transformation of regional climates and environments?
