Ecopolis Munich: A Student Exhibition

12.10.2019 – 20.10.2019

Ecopolis Munich: Umweltgeschichten einer Stadt
Seminar and Student Exhibition

with Christof Mauch, Gesa Lüdecke, Talitta Reitz and Laura Kuen

This seminar focuses on the environmental history, present and future of Munich. Participants will work towards both a physical and a virtual exhibition. Students will prepare exhibits in small interdisciplinary groups but with their individual specialization. The exhibition will be showcased at the whiteBOX (Werksviertel Mitte) in Munich. As one of several exhibits, the transformation of the Werksviertel into a postindustrial urban area will be shown as well. Students are free to choose their topic for this exhibition among a range of suggestions. Taking specific places of Munich as a starting point, we will focus on broader environmental topics such as air pollution, alternative farming, mobility and energy, or urban habitats.
Ecopolis Munich builds on a previous exhibition that students of our Environmental Studies Certificate Program worked on in 2016–17. Since this exhibition was shown for only 3 days in 2017, in LMU’s Hauptgebäude, we intend to include the original display in the new exhibition.

Ecopolis Munich will be co-taught by lecturers from different disciplines, and students will work closely with professional designers. To get an idea of the previous exhibition, you can visit it online at http://www.environmentandsociety.org/exhibitions/ecopolis-muenchen2017

The seminar will meet on an ad hoc basis throughout the summer term (including two Saturdays) and also during the semester break. The first session is scheduled to take place on 25 April, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Students who actively participate in the seminar will receive 3 ECTS points (as part of a practice module).

Should they choose to make the exhibition their final project, they will receive an extra 9 ECTS points.) The exhibition will be shown from 12 - 20 October, 2019, in the Werksviertel at Ostbahnhof. It is open daily and free and open to the public.

The Exhibition's vernissage takes place on 15 October.
