Instructor: Dr. Kimberly Coulter kimberly.coulter@carsoncenter.lmu.de, Rachel Carson Center, LMU Munich

This course examined the role of digital technologies in environmental
communication, focusing on translation of scholarly research for the
public. What opportunities and challenges do these tools present, and
how do they change the production and circulation of knowledge? We
visited field sites and spoke with practitioners in journalism, museums,
and the nonprofit sector. Students submited one research/reflection
paper and one published, public-facing digital publication.

In order to accommodate site visits and meetings with practitioners, we met
for 3 hours each time, with a break, for only the first
half of the semester. Final projects were due at the end of the
semester, though they may be submitted early.

The course met at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society
in Munich and was held in English; ability to understand German is
helpful but not required. The instructorl translated key points of
guest presentations in German.

This course met on seven Monday mornings during the summer semester
from 9-12 at the Rachel Carson Center, 4th floor conference room.
Specifically, wel met: 24 April, 8 May, 22 May, no class on
Pfingsten, then 12 June, 26 June, 10 July, and 24 July.
