Certificate Student
American History, Culture and Society Student

Theresa Hilz is a M.A. student enrolled in the American History, Culture and Society program
at LMU. During her two years of social work in the US she developed a strong interest in
American history and politics and in her studies has since focused on the intersectionality of
social and environmental issues in the North American context. Concluding her undergraduate
studies, Theresa wrote her B.A. thesis on nuclear colonialism in Canada and the effects uranium
mining in the Northwest Territories for the Manhattan project has had on Indigenous lands and
lives. As she intends to continue her research into nuclear colonialism, she currently seeks to
further explore the politicization and deregulation of environmental policies from Ronald
Reagan’s to President George W. Bush’s presidencies.
