Vera Knill is currently pursuing a master's degree in sustainable resource management at the Technical University of Munich. She received a bachelor's degree in tourism management from the Munich University of Applied Sciences in 2016. In her bachelor thesis, she examined opportunities and challenges to sustainable tourism management in Florianópolis, Brazil. While working on an international development cooperation project in Costa Rica, reforestation initiatives sparked her interest in the protection of forest ecosystems and green infrastructure. As part of the International Forestry Students' Association, she has attended conferences on urban forestry and Indigenous land rights, which have led her to want to know more about the connections between environmental and socio-economic issues.

Her main interests as an Environmental Studies Certificate student lie with urban green infrastructure, nature-based solutions, environmental education, and cultural ecosystem services. Through the Environmental Studies Certificate Program, she aims to explore and discuss future challenges and alternative, community-oriented solutions in an interdisciplinary environment.
