Environmental Planning and Engineering Ecology

Sibylle Zavala studied biology at LMU Munich and is currently studying for a master’s degree in Environmental Planning and Engineering Ecology at TU Munich. Her studies focus on aquatic ecology, restoration and ecosystem management. Sibylle is writing her master’s thesis on fish damage in hydroelectric power plants. For her final project for the Environmental Studies Certificate Program in 2015, together with Ramona Mayr and Thomas Müller, she presented the paper “Combating Food Waste: Three Examples of How to Save Food in Munich.” Her research included accompanying “food rescuers” on dumpster-diving expeditions and visiting supermarkets involved in foodsharing e.V. as well as the Münchner Tafel’s food distribution sites for food recovery. She organized an exhibition of picture stories using images she took at these sites.
