Laura Kuen, M.A.

Alumna Certificate Student
Social and Cultural Anthropology

Laura Kuen is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Ethnology, Czech Academy of Sciences, and part of the BOAR ERC project. She obtained a BA in social and cultural anthropology and an MA in visual anthropology at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany as well as the Environmental Studies Certificate at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society.

Laura has produced two ethnographic documentary films on human-environmental relationships in Russia and Germany and co-curated four exhibitions engaging with the environmental history of Munich, global socio-environmental entanglements of coffee, and the changing soundscapes of Bavarian agricultural landscapes in times of mass extinction.

Her current research interest lies in human-animal relations in western Ukraine where she conducted her doctoral fieldwork from 2021-2024. Combining approaches from multispecies ethnography, and the environmental humanities with audio-visual and multisensory methods, Laura seeks to make these relationships accessible to audiences in but also beyond academia.
